We are a combination of habits and beliefs; the way we think affects our behavior. We are all prisoners of our own thoughts. We think about things so much that we can’t help but think about them again and again. Our minds are like broken records, always playing the same tune over and over again. This is why people tend to complain about routine because they get tired of doing the same thing day after day after day.
This study suggests that it is the way we think about things that makes a difference in our experience of life. Our thoughts have an effect on our moods and ultimately on our bodies. The more positive we are, the better off we are. This is why I advocate having positive thinking to replace negative ones!
How Our Thinking Shapes Our Life Experience?
What we believe and how we feel about ourselves will determine what kind of life we have. If you don’t think that you are a good person, or you don’t like yourself, then your life will be unpleasant. Our thoughts create our feelings, and they also create our actions. For example, if I tell myself that I am a failure, then I am going to feel bad about myself and start behaving in ways that support a negative view of myself. I am going to feel hopeless and start making choices that will help me fail even more.
If we have a positive outlook on life, then we are going to be happier, healthier, and wealthier. When we think about ourselves in a positive way, it makes us feel good about ourselves, and it makes us behave in ways that will help us achieve our goals. For example, if you think that you are smart and talented, then you will feel good about yourself and start doing things that will help you succeed.
You Are What You Think
What you focus on expands. This principle is at the heart of most meditation practices and is also known as the Law of Attraction in the world of New Age thought. Whatever you think about, talk about, or spend time thinking about expands in your life experience.
If you want to experience something different in your life, then you need to think about things differently. If you want to be more loving, compassionate, kind, generous, and caring, then you need to practice having positive thoughts!
To illustrate this principle, imagine two individuals. One person focuses his attention on how good he feels when he exercises every morning. The other individual complains about how tired she is and wishes she could get more sleep each night.
In which of these two individuals do you think the thought of exercising would have a greater impact?
Clearly, it is the individual who focuses on how good he feels. He will experience that feeling more often because his thoughts are focused on it. It’s as if his attention is magnifying and expanding those positive feelings in his life.
This is a simple example, but I hope you can see how this principle works. The same holds true for negative thoughts and emotions such as anger, frustration, anxiety, fear, etc. The thoughts we focus on are the ones that become our reality. It’s all about your perception of life and how you choose to perceive it.
You see, your subconscious mind is constantly scanning your environment for any “proof” or evidence that supports the thoughts you’re thinking. If it finds any, it automatically acts upon those thoughts by creating a physical manifestation in your life to match them. That’s why when you feel bad physically, you think negative thoughts. It’s a vicious cycle.
If you think happy, positive thoughts and the role of motivation; then your subconscious mind will go out into the world and bring back evidence that supports those thoughts, thereby creating more “proof” to support them even further. That’s how we create our reality.
So what can you do to start living in a better reality?
Here are three things that have worked for me:
- First of all, realize that the thoughts you think have a direct impact on your prospective on life. If you’re thinking negative thoughts, then you’re going to feel bad physically, and that’s going to make it more difficult for you to change your circumstances.
- If you’re in a bad situation, it’s important that you stop thinking about how bad things are and start focusing on the solution. Think about what you can do to improve the situation instead of thinking about how horrible it is.
- I know this may sound simplistic, but this is the most important thing you can do. It’s really hard to stay positive when things are going wrong, but you need to fight through it and be optimistic. If you start thinking positively, then your circumstances will change for the better.
- You also need to realize that your thoughts have a direct impact on how successful you are in life. The people who are most successful in life think differently than everyone else. They’re not worried about money or things like that.
Conclusion
To conclude, I would just quote that:
“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.” – Buddha.
